May 2017

On May 5th, 2017 we celebrated Achievement Day for our Class #8 graduates. Seven men received their certificates of completion and join the growing ranks of our Achievement Club members. We are very proud of these men and the accomplishment they have attained and look forward to their journey ahead. A great day was had by the many people in attendance. Please consider attending a future Achievement Day to celebrate the victory with these men.

We have added new program volunteers and organizations that continue to provide our participants with quality re-entry services. We have welcomed Mott Workforce Education Center and the Financial Opportunity Center (FOC). They presented their programs to our participants and provided them with additional learning opportunities in the areas of college/education supportive services, trades training, additional employment assistance, computer labs, and financial coaching programs.  Both of these outstanding organizations are located just across the street from the Center for Hope/St. Michael Church building where we currently have our classroom. Re-Connections is grateful to be involved with the many organizations that make this intersection of Saginaw & 5th Avenues a central outreach and empowerment area for the residents of Flint.

We are very grateful to the Michigan Department of Corrections and Catholic Charities Counseling Department for helping coordinate the men’s schedules so they can participate in our program.

More companies are requesting our graduates to enhance their workforce. The options for employment now encompass many sectors including manufacturing, logistics/transportation and retail among others. Additional college training programs such as welding and robotics are available for men seeking a career in the trades with many receiving full grants to attend.

Our Life Coaches are simply the best! Each session brings aboard new coaches who have a heart to guide our Achievers on their journey. Many coaches continue the relationship with their Achiever beyond our 6-month program requirement. It is a blessing to have a truthful, integrity grounded person in one’s life to guide through challenges and victories.

Thanks to all of you who voted in the USA Today campaign for our goal of expanding into a Kitchen/ServSafe Certificate program. We are awaiting final nationwide results that will be announced in early June.  We appreciate all your support in time, talents and treasures. You are helping to create new beginnings for our Achievers as they return to their communities.
