February 24th marked the Achievement Day celebration for Class #7 and we congratulate and welcome our three newest members to the Achiever’s Club! This elite club now has 30 members and our goal of 100 members gets closer....one willing man at a time. The Achiever’s Club voice is getting heard and we are proud of these men who are leading the way.
We have moved into a temporary classroom for the next 9 months as renovations begin on the Catholic Charities Center for Hope building. It fits our needs perfectly. It is a great blessing to work alongside Catholic Charities in a combined effort to change lives and we thank them for all they have done for us.
Our class curriculum continues to improve as we make adjustments based on input from both our Skills Trainers and participants. We have many community members, including HR Professionals, Business Owners and Retired Executives who share their time and talents teaching and encouraging the men. Mock interviews and speech presentations have been added with very good success. Our growing team of Skills Trainers is simply the best!
Our Life Coaches do amazing work and are vital to the success of our program. Many are continuing with the relationships they have developed with their returning citizens well beyond our 6-month coaching commitment. A few men have now completed their parole requirements and are moving forward in life free for the first time in many years! What a great honor to watch these men break the barriers of their past and begin to build their legacies. If you have an interest in becoming a Life Coach please contact us. You will find it most rewarding.
We continue to collaborate with many outstanding local organizations that help our graduates move on with their next steps. We thank them all for their willingness to encourage our Achievers with a second chance. The pool of employers requesting our graduates continues to grow each quarter. We also continue to develop stronger working relationships with the correctional programs that help the men transition more seamlessly along their journey.
Letters and emails arrive regularly from prisons state wide from men who have heard about our program and would like to learn more about how they can participate once released. At this time our focus is on Genesee County, however, we will go where God leads. The Re-Connections Board of Directors is now planning for a second afternoon session to duplicate our morning session in Flint and also exploring the idea for possible expansion into neighboring counties. These opportunities will come to fruition as funding becomes available through our supporters and grant opportunities. A future program in discussion will involve selected Achiever’s Club Members speaking at area schools to help steer our youth from a potential life of poor decision making and crime.
Class #8 will begin on March 27th and Achievement Day is schedule for Friday May 5th at 10:00 am. Please see the Events tab for details. You are always welcome to attend!
We thank God and all of you, our faithful supporters, for helping our program continue to change lives within Genesee County and beyond and look forward to the exciting months ahead!
